Why this exists

Searching "how loud is my street" mostly turns up a resident forum guess or a real-estate listing's own claim. NoiseLevelCheck instead reports one figure per place, worked from the same federal dataset DOT uses to plan highway sound walls and airport insulation programs, and checks it against HUD's own published noise-acceptability line.

What goes into the number

Every place's figure comes from the US DOT Bureau of Transportation Statistics' National Transportation Noise Map, a 24-hour average sound level (dB(A)) modelling road, rail and aircraft noise separately before combining them. Place names, coordinates and population come from public Census data.

A federal model, not a resident survey

This is a modelled 24-hour average at a place's Census-defined center point, not a live sensor on any one street, and not a crowdsourced or resident-reported figure. BTS's own map resolves to roughly 38 meters per pixel; it is the same public source anyone can query directly at bts.gov.

Who runs this

NoiseLevelCheck is an independently run site, not affiliated with the US DOT, BTS, or HUD. Each place's page is generated directly from the public dataset above rather than written freehand per place, then checked against that same source data before publishing. Where a page carries a sponsored or affiliate link, that is disclosed on the page itself and in the privacy policy.

How this is written and checked

Every page on NoiseLevelCheck is generated by software cross-referencing the BTS and Census datasets directly, not paraphrased from another site and not written by a named human author. Pages stick to what the dataset actually shows, a dB(A) reading, its HUD zone, and a national rank, and don't claim to know what one specific address or block sounds like. Corrections reported through the contact page are checked against the source BTS data directly.
